Weather in the Bahamas – Planning your trip

A trip to the Bahamas can be a wonderfully relaxing and memorable experience for the whole family, but on top of the usual planning, packing, requesting vacation time, there is one element that many potential vacationers neglect, and that’s checking when the weather will be best in the Bahamas. You certainly wouldn’t want to get caught on the island as Hurricane Tomas approached, so make sure to read this article thoroughly before planning your next trip.

As a popular tourist destination from the United States, the weather patterns in and around the islands of the Bahamas are fairly predictable and well understood. First off, for optimal conditions you’ll want to avoid the hurricane season. This falls between the months of X and Y. That’s your first step and upping the odds of fantastic weather during your stay there.

There can be quite a lot of rain during the fall, in face that’s their rainy season. Don’t let that stop you though, it rarely rains for extended periods of time. On average, there are about 10-12 rainy days per month, pretty high in the Caribbean, with nearly 11 1/2 cm of rain per month. During the rainy season, this rises to over 23.5 cm of rain/month and about 18-20 rain days/month. That’s nearly 1 in every 3 days.

The average temperature is slightly lower than most of the Caribbean, sitting between 69.5 and 84 degrees Fahrenheit, with summer months going as high as 90 degrees Fahrenheit.

Historically, due to rain, hurricane season, and fluctuating weather, the most popular months to visit the Bahamas are April and May in the spring, and November in the fall. If you’re planning your next Bahamas vacation, try to keep this in mind. Although these months are no guarantee of beautiful weather, they’ll certainly increase your odds.
