Readers Respond: What’s the best place to visit in Jamaica?

Readers Respond: What’s the best place to visit in Jamaica?

We decided to survey some of our readers and get some feedback on their favorite places in Jamaica to visit. The results weren’t surprising, as many readers chose the same destinations (but in reality, that’s what they’re so popular in the first place). If you’re considering a trip to Jamaica, consider what some of your fellow travellers have said about what they consider to be the best place to visit in Jamaica. They’ve been there, done that, and have some really great advice to give you.

What’s the best place to visit in Jamaica? That’s a tought question. My husband and I spent our honeymoon at the Gran Bahia Principe in Jamaica, and had an absolutely wonderful time. The food was amazing, as were the drinks and overall ambience of the resort. We did spend quite a bit of time travelling around the island. We saw Dunn’s Falls, and the Bob Marley museum. I think my favorite place to visit in Jamaica was Negril, the beaches were stunning. I’m a simple girl, and a day at the beach is all I need.

I had a lot of fun in Ochos Rios, definitely recommend to anybody visiting the area! This is the best place to visit in Jamaica!

Marge, Quebec City, Quebec

I loved Ochos Rios when we visited about 6-7 years ago, it was one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever visited. I also loved the shopping and resorts in the area, such a wonderful little city. I’ve been dying to go back ever since, but the resort doesn’t allow children. My husband and I may settle for one of those kid friendly resorts so that we can see Ochos Rios again.

Best place to visit in Jamaica? Kingston! Seriously, if you want to experience the “real” Jamaica, you can’t just hang out at all the tourist traps. I really can’t stand people who fly all the way to a new country, and then spend their time hidden away in a resort. How can you learn anything about the country like that? Those resorts are so artificial. I mean, they have their place, they’re super relaxing but I don’t want to just relax when I visit a new place. I want to see what the country is all about. Kingston is where you’ll see the real Jamaica, eat real Jamaican food, and see some crazy sites. The city has had a bit of a bad rap in the past for crime, but as far as I know it’s really cleaned up its act in the last 10 years. I never felt like I was in any danger when I was wandering around.
